I've been trying some things to get my postgres working again and can't pull it off. I figure my best shot now is to try and start fresh with postgres. What steps should I take to get rid of postgres completely? I removed the program and deleted a couple folders of postgres but when I reinstall postgres I can't get past the configuration while installing. I'm thinking there are some traces of the program that I'm not getting rid of. Thanks.

Use the Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs window to uninstall it.

Then manually delete the remnants of the c:\program files\postgresql folder.

Go to the Start menu and select Run. Type COMMAND on the window that opens and hit Enter. On the DOS window type:

net user postgres /delete

and hit Enter to run it. Type Exit to close the DOS window.

Now reinstall PostgreSQL.

EDIT: SORRY, MY BAD...

Forgot space between "postgres /delete"... I'm abit of a newb when it comes to DOS.

Hi.

After having trouble installing the first time i followed your advice and deleted as above.
When intalling again I get the message saying "User "postgre" could not be created. The user account already exists !"

I have uninstalled in control panel and deleted the folder from programfiles.
I also followed your advice about deleting it in DOS.

Any idea whats wrong?

If you still get this error when you install PostgreSQL then you didn't use the net user command correctly. You need to make sure you enter it exactly as I stated above

net user postgres /delete

with a space between postsgres and / and no space between the / and delete.

How do you do this in vista?

The same way except you disable the UAC first before reinstalling PostgreSQL.
