Done. Still getting the same errors when PT2 starts.

edit: fwiw I just noticed under documents and settings there are several postgres accounts listed.

postgres
postgres.<computer name>.000
postgres.<computer name>.001
postgres.<computer name>.002
postgres.<computer name>.003

all of them have folders
Administrator's Documents
Cookies
Destop
Start Menu
Windows
a favorites icon
and a file named NTUSER.DAT

Were you able to remove the ODBC entry using that window or did you have to use REGEDIT to delete it?

You are still also getting the same error message when you try to open the PostgreSQL Database Functions window?

Sorry for the incomplete response.

I had to use regedit to delete the ODBC entry.

And I didn't even try to go to the DB functions window.

I am out of town today and most of tomorrow. I will try when I get home and report back.

Thanks for the help and patience.

Using REGEDIT find the entry....

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBC.INI\PTPGSQL Test Port 5432

Click on the "Driver" entry on the right-side of the screen. What is the value of that field?

Now, find the entry...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ODBC\ODBCINST.INI\PostgreSQL Unicode

What is the value of the "Driver" field for this entry?

Are all of the other fields blank like that one too??

If it's just the driver then right-click on the "Driver" field and select Modify from the popup menu. Now, enter the same value you have for the driver in the other field, which is...

C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\8.2\bin\psqlodbc35w.dll

Click OK to save. Then try PT again.

Here are screen shots of the ini and inst file registries. (taken after I inserted the value into the ini driver field.

Once I inserted the driver value, when I start PT2 is still get the

"999-SQLSTATE = IM002
...data source name not found and no default driverspecified."

But I don't get an error when I open the SQL db functions window. There are no databases listed in the Select DB drop down.

There are no databases listed because you uninstalled PostgreSQL in an attempt to try to have it run off an external drive. At least that was my understanding of the original message you entered in this thread. Now you have to use the Restore option to restore from the .backup file you made before uninstalling PostgreSQL before.

That's what i assumed but I didn't want to take that step before hearing back from you.

When I open PSQL db functions window and browse to the location of my backup file and click on open I get:

"Error finding PostgreSQL ODBC driver name."

For what it's worth I made this backup from the PSQL db functions window with the backup option.

I was following the tuturial about backing up from pgAdmin but my directory tree did not list any of my databases to choose from so I backed up using the Db funtions window.
